Watching on the Side

Running is a way of life. We all agree to that. It’s habit forming at first, until you fell addicted to it – - – but in a nice way. The benefits outweigh the expenses!

However, in reality, running has somehow shifted to a commodity not available to a few – those who can’t afford it. Is there such a person? Let’s see.

That would greatly depend on how often you want to race. You see, running can be done anywhere. Alone, maybe, but it can be done at your leisurely time.

That, is if you are not willing to spend anything at all. Well, you would have to buy some drinks, somehow. Ok, bring water. LOLz :P

Going back. Every week of every month is loaded with events.

Now:

  • If you would join and race them all -
  1. You must be very strong or aspiring to be strong
  2. You must be very rich or moderately rich or is simply rich. Ever consider the total cash out? Fare. Registration. Lodging – if applicable.
  • If you would choose only what race to join, then it’s not something to think about anymore.

Therefore:

  • If some friends do join weekly races, even monthly ones, regardless of the distance of the race nor it’s location – do not be jealous.  If you will just be watching on the side (like me!), that’s reality. Just be happy for them. Pray that they be blessed. Pray also that you be blessed.
  • If some friends choose to run on their own every day of every week of every month – join them! You just might find the bliss of running along together without the guilt of spending too much.
  • If some friends choose to choose only the races they like to join – find out what. See if it’s affordable to you. Weigh things out. If it’s something big and you really can’t pass – find a way to register! Get a sponsor! Pray to God that you be provided with the small things you need. Our God is a generous loving and living God. It’s about time you test His generosity.

Now that’s a lot of things. Somehow, somewhere we may fit in. But there will always be running. Somewhere…

Reza Baluchi is one of the many runners who can inspire anyone.

I think he is the only runner who has done more in terms of mileage and distance and nobility of the adventure.

Find his story here.

While we have our own Father Picx – who has done Davao to Aparri, and Mac Milan – who has just recently completed Davao to Manila, Reza Baluchi has more than thaat. He has done more than what Marshall Ulrich has done in America.

Amazing guy.

May the Lord who is full of mercy be with him all the way. May the Lord bless and guide him. May he be listened to as a catalyst of peace for the world.

In the name of Jesus, I pray.

:)

Someday – I hope to run, at least, Manila to Guinobatan, Albay and see my parents there. :)

By God’s grace. :)

All, by God’s loving grace.

I already have 5 ultramarathons for this year, as of this date, and no marathon yet. So I asked for one.

Finally.

Today, the 25th of October, I get to be given a race bib for the 4th QCIM on December 2, 2012.

Yes!

But wait! There’s more!

An hour ago before this post, I was given too, a bib for the RUPM, happening on Sunday!

Yeah. When it rains, it pours.

When the Lord’s blessings flow, it flows like a river!

Thanks be to the Lord God Almighty!

From a high of 74 kgs…see the news before., I am now at 60kgs only. I make it a point to run/walk at every chance I can get.  Distance wouldn’t matter at all. Of course, I prefer anything longer than usual.

I’m about less than 400 kms near the 7,000 kms club mileage. I think I can beat the end of the year for this. :) Given the many ultras and training time.

There’s a whole bunch of kind people out there. I will acknowledge all of them soon. Very soon. Here!

God bless to all those who will run – finish – experience Mount Pinatubo this coming weekend. I will just be running at MensHealth’s Urbanathlon for the nth time. :)

Tarak Ridge will happen soon. :) I’m looking forward to it.

DapDap Challenge Run will also happen soon.

The KOTR Experience 2012

I was a bit hesitant to run on this date.

:)

I was looking forward to the event but something happened the day before race day. I got cold chills and back pains. My wife thought that I will not wake up early and run. ..

Well I did.

Gunstart was at 5am in BGC. I was already on my way by 4am. Too tight for a commuter. I usually leave home and allow for at least 2 hours when I race. I reached the gunstart where everybody is at 10 minutes to 5am. The place is packed with runners. Lots of familiar faces.

It was a cold morning. Some cool wind and occasional drizzle.

Everyone was excited to run.

I did my 100 ups a few minutes before countdown. Hoping to get better (the backache) when I start running.

Then I wasn’t able to run. LOL

The gunstart marked the walk. Literally! I was able to see the time wasted – 46 seconds! when I reached the Starting Line Arc!

Lots of walkers upon a race gunstart? LOL

It pays to know what to do…like every experienced runner will. WEAVING!

My RUNTASTIC voice feed says I averaged 6 minutes 39 seconds in the 1st KM. So much time wasted. Though I came without any plan or desire to beat my PR for a 10-miler, I really do not intend to start that slow. BY the 2nd KM I already averaged 5 minutes 25 seconds. Good.

The route brimmed with hydration. I do not intend to drink until I really have to.

The route also boasts a lot of cheers – coming from different groups of marshalls. Good job! I hear positive energy sent my way.

I was running at a good pace over a very familiar route. I liked running at Kalayaan Flyover. It’s a training ground for me. Yes, I run there on ordinary days – when everybody else do not expect to see anyone there. LOL

I was running strong even at the U-turn of 16.8K. I see lots of familiar faces to chase.

I feel for those who are at the tail. I see them struggle already…but I also saw them smile.

Now here is where I started walking. @ KM 14 – about 2.8K to the Finish. Not my usual style – but I just felt I needed to drink this time and walk up the Kalayaan Flyover and take my time. Yes, no hurry. Not a bit. LOL

Suddenly, Gab, Pao and Ariel is at my side – and overtook me walking. LOL

I’m just not up to a race-chase on this day. Just after for a good run.

Down the flyover, I was able to catch up with Gab. We jogged. He is not in any hurry too. Then funny things happen. LOL

At exactly 1 KM to the finish line, we walked. We just decided to chat and walk and laugh. Yes, we are not in any hurry. We are at a good pace. We already have ran at a strong pace before the walk. It was just nice. Yet, funny.

I forgot to mention. This is the only race – first at that – where I saw JOLLIBEE cheering up the crowd! :) LOL Good job to the Organizers! The bee draws a lot of positive smiles!

So where were we? Ah – near the last turn to the finish – walking.

As we took the last turn, Gab signaled too that we run. And sprinting we go. :)

Clock ticks 1:45:10 (officla) when I crossed the line.

Wait. Who is Gab? LOL

Picture Taken April 15, 2009. Back then the hand sign means “tres amigos”. Gab owns that sign.

Back then, Carlo, Gab, Me and Rod would run MOA and call it LSD. See the sign?

@ this event, the hand sign is TEAM BORING sign. Gab, Me and Sir Jun. Photo Credit to JazzRunner.

Now you know who Gab is. :P

Fine event.

Fine Sunday.

Nice medal – lots of freebies – nice route – nice people.

Btw: ANR MOA is Team Boring territory. Just saying. :)
